Barry Dargan
CEO & Portfolio Manager

30+ years investment experience

Barry is a Chartered Accountant, has a BSc degree in Economics from City University, London and has a certificate in Japanese language fluency from Keio University, Tokyo.

Barry was previously Partner, Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at Artisan Partners where he set up, lead-managed and was sole decision maker on their Global Equity strategy and opened the London office (2010-2013). Artisan’s Global Equity fund had top decile performance under his tenure, with buy ratings from leading global consultants.

Before that Barry was a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at MFS (1996-2010) where he was portfolio manager of MFS International Growth Fund (2001-2010) and co-manager of MFS Global Growth Fund (2003-2010). Total funds managed were approximately $6 billion. During his tenure these funds had consistent top quartile performance and had top rankings with major consultants. Barry worked in Boston, Tokyo (where he opened the MFS office) and London with MFS during his time at the firm.

Previous history was as an Executive Director and head of global technology research at SG Warburg in Tokyo (1992-1996), head of research and technology analyst covering Japanese technology at James Capel, Tokyo (1988-1992), investment analyst covering European technology at Phillips & Drew, London (1984-1988) and he started his career at Arthur Andersen as a Chartered Accountant in London (1981-1984).

Christopher Smith
Investment Analyst

Chris holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Business Administration from University of Michigan and is a CFA charterholder.

Previously employed at Artisan Partners in London as a global sector analyst covering the consumer sector (2010-2014). His previous experience includes working as an analyst covering healthcare at Sanford Bernstein, New York (2009-2010), investment analyst covering global consumer sectors at Diamondback Capital Management, New York (2007-2008) and equity research associate covering consumer finance companies at Raymond James, Atlanta (2002-2005).

James Kim
Investment Analyst

James Kim holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in Business Administration from University of California at Berkeley.

Previously employed at Fidelity Management & Research in Tokyo and Boston covering the technology and media sectors (2006-2014). His previous experience was as an associate in the technology-related private equity business of Quadrangle Group, New York (2003-2005) and at Morgan Stanley, Menlo Park, as an analyst in the technology investment banking practice (2000-2003).

Nicholas Midgley

Nicholas holds an MA in Economics from Cambridge University and is a CFA Charterholder.

Previously employed at Artisan Partners in London as a global sector analyst covering the capital goods sector (2011-2014). His previous experience was as an investment analyst covering European capital goods at Jefferies, London (2007-2011) and at  PricewaterhouseCoopers, London, where he was a Chartered Accountant in the audit division (2003-2007).

Richard Thompson

Previously employed at Gladstone Partners in London as an investment analyst with a focus on financial, technology and telecommunication companies (2013-2015). Prior experience includes as an investment banking associate in the Financial Institutions Group at Deutsche Bank, London (2010-2013) and at Ernst and Young, London in the Valuations and Business Modelling Group (2008-2009) and Banking and Capital Markets Assurance Services (2005-2008).

Rupert Mahon
Chief Operating Officer

20+ years investment operations experience

Rupert graduated with an LLB (Hons) from the University of Wales and qualified as a lawyer in 1999, practising in corporate and financial law for several years following qualification. In addition, Rupert holds the Investment Administration Qualification (IAQ) from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Rupert joined Intermede Investment Partners in November 2015 as Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for all non-investment aspects of the business. Before joining Intermede, Rupert was COO at Bramshott Capital, a European equity manager, from January 2011 to October 2015. Rupert was at Stanhope Capital for nearly a year and a half (until December 2010) and before that at Dalton Strategic Partnership for over three and half years until September 2009. He joined Dalton from Park Place Financial Strategy, a financial services firm he founded with a partner from his days working as a lawyer, where he was from February 2004 to December 2005.

Mike Gallagher

Mike holds a BA in English Language & Literature (Hons) from the University of Oxford and is a CFA and CAIA Charterholder.

Previously a partner, and Head of Business Development and Investor Relations, at London-based hedge fund Praxient Capital (2013-2014), Mike worked as a Product Specialist at Lloyd George Management (2009-2013), and began his career at Baillie Gifford & Co. in Edinburgh, initially as an investment analyst with a focus on EAFE equities (2002-2005), and subsequently on the team sourcing and servicing North American institutional clients (2005-2007).
